MSC.ADAMS 11 is available for general use on almost all the machines in the Mechanical Engineering "MechEng" academic computing domain (the exception being the computers in the Undergraduate Control Systems Laboratory).

In addition, under the terms of the departmental license, the software may be downloaded from our server to individual PC's on the MIT campus. ADAMS training is also available at a discounted price.

Restrictions on use

The terms of MIT's license from Mechanical Dynamics Inc. specify that this software is for educational/classroom use only.  You are welcome to download and use this software as long as you read and agree with the terms in the License Agreement and the additional Terms for Student Use.

Availability

This software is "license served", allowing up to 150 concurrent users.  Downloading and installing the code on your PC is not sufficient for general use - to use it you must be actively connected to the internet via a valid MIT IP address of the form 18.*.*.*   When you start ADAMS it requests a license token from the server, and when this is granted the program loads.  Your machine will regularly contact the server during operation for validation of the license.  Should you disconnect from the internet, the program will fail.  The software will run from machines on campus, and remotely through MIT's Tether dialup connection.  It will not run remotely through an independent ISP, or through cable TV connections such as Media One Road Runner, since this would be off the MIT network.

Contents

The educational package includes ADAMS.  You may opt to load all or part of the package.

Support

The Mechanical Engineering Department does not guarantee that you will be able to download or install this software on your computer, nor that it will run on your system.

Do not contact MSC! As part of the license agreement we have agreed that only one designated person will contact MSC. Therefore you may not  seek Technical Support directly from MSC.  Problems should be reported to me-computing@mit.edu.

Electronic Resources

MSC provides a number of electronic resources, such as:

Installation (NT/2000)

Instructions are for installation directly from the Mechanical Engineering NT server meche2.mit.edu at IP address 18.80.0.100 from the shared folder "Adams_11".  You may run the setup program directly from the server using the step outlined below. Alternatively, you may copy the Adams_11 Folder to a temporary space on you computer and run the setup program locally.
