Termites Model: Results

Here's what happens:

As you can see, over time the termites pile the blocks into larger and larger clusters. Eventually, they form a single giant cluster. Nowhere in the rules for termites are they told to work together or to create a single giant cluster, but that is always the result.

This system is Self-organizing, meaning that the termites work together on what seems like a common goal, without having a central leader. It is also unpredictable: while the termites always form a single cluster, you can't predict where it will be.
