In which our heroes ...
Orhan 4 Day 62 TE 6061
Oathar is at the villa awaiting his newbies. On the table in front of
each of four seats, are small magic items with ravens on them. The four
items are a ring, amulet, bracer, earring.
Nimble, first to arrive makes a quick looting roll, and sits at the ring.
He's spent some time down in Lankonok robbing some folks, as they are
currently loaded down there, but he's here as he owes someone a favor.
He's willing to split the treasure with his compatriots (after the house
cut) and knows enough to not try to fence power magic items.
Next to arrive is a young girl named Sumaiya very concerned for her horse.
Before being brought in to talk to Oathar, she has a lot to complain about
the stable boy who took her horse. She's a cleric of Kuor.
Third to arive is Tunaep. He sits before the bracer. Clearly a half-elf
of some variety. Seems to be an archer/swordsman. Nomar Tol decided it
was time for him to leave and assist the humans. The Lankani are dirty
brutish and short.
The final guest is rather shy and quiet, named Whisper in fact. He sits
at the amulet seat.
Oathar gives a briefing on the mission. First is record troop movements
throughout Lankonok, and then meet up at the northern border. Oathar tells
them we depart int eh morning and then leaves.
Orhan 4 Day 62 TE 6061
Oathar takes everyone down to the ship The Foamy Wave and gets
them and the ship all blessed by a priestess of Neela before embarking
on their journey.
The ships plan is to make a cargo run down to Nuyam Kom and will drop
us off secretly part way. We set sail.
Whisper explores the whole ship, even checking out the Admiral's cabin.
He goes so far as to copy one of Oathar's maps.
Meanwhile Oathar is watching ships. He sees three Lankani galleys a dozen
miles north, and in the other direction, something that sort of looks
like a whale. It's very strange. He identifies it as a fairly large ship,
200 feet long, but mostly underwater. Crewsize is 40 and it can do 40
knots. That's crazy!
Oathar watches it until he sees a Dyar go up on top to look around. It's
very similar to the "sub-ma-rines" that we saw in the Eastern
hemisphere.
Orhan 4 Day 67 TE 6061
The ship approaches the coast of Lankonok, and we prepare to disembark.
As we approach store, Oathar spots the marker for where we're going to
disembark.
Oathar sends Nimble and Whisper to scout the shore before disembarking
the rest of the team.
The scout for a long time. They seem to enconce themselves in trees and
continue scouting. Eventually, they decide the area is all clear and summon
the rest of the party.
Oathar cloaks himself a for a bit to see what the party is up to. They
decide to split up and search a bit, and then meet back at dark. Sumaiya
stays at the beachhead. Tradewind follows whisper, Oathar secretly follow
Tunaep. Nimble, the guy who Oathar decided is pretty reliable is left
to his own devices.
Whisper obsesses about this bird that's following him. Nimble having
seen that not a lot is going on, heads back to meet up with Sumaiya. He
starts helping her with her "language skills".
Whisper and Tunaep head back. Nimble's moves get interrupted by the return
of the group.
Oathar comes in and returns. They found a trail that leads from the beach
to the villiage in the southwest.
After some discussion, Nimble suggests that he be an advance agent looking
to sell a Pokanti boy slave (Whisper) to some army guys.
We encounter some women hanging laundry. They watch us go by. It seems
to be a women only village. No men around. Some kids. Nimble gets to the
middle and starts his spiel asking about where the men/army went. An old
woman comes out to meet him. She's dressed in something approaching finery,
but with a bone staff. The conversation takes a turn for the worse, as
it becomes clear that lankani soldiers only want young boys to fool around
with. The old lady won't say where they all are though.
Nimble bribes them, and she tells us how to get to old Lankani garrison.
Before they can leave, the old woman tries to trade two young girls for
the one young boy we've got. What a mess.
We flee. We grab our horses to go take a look at the old garrison. Just
around nightfall, we find the old garrison. There's an old guy sitting
on the stool in front of the open gate. Nimble goes back into the spiel
again. The old buy sends us in to talk to the captain. We pass some more
drunk soldiers. They give us beer, eventually we find the captain. He
a gross fat guy. Oathar notes some dispatches and maps on the table. It's
gonna be after dark real soon now...
We decide that enough is enough and take the captain out. He goes down
pretty quietly, and people head out to finish off what's left of the garrison.
They all go down. We get 2 gold.
Nimble interrogates the remaining prisoner, but isn't really good at
it. Whisper interrogates him some too and finds out that they all had
a lot of recruiting to do and went off to the west. We look through the
papers. There used to be 100 guys here. Between 70-140 days ago, they
started transferring a lot of people away, mostly to the west. There's
a larger garrison meant as a staging area there, and they striped this
one a lot while staffing that one. There's a large port town to the south
east, and the larger garrison to the west.
We set up watches and stay in the garrison for the night. Charon rises
in the sky. Its baleful red glow looks down upon us.
Orhan 4 Day 68 TE 6061
We cover our exit from the garrison and head off to the garrison to the
west.
