Session 42

In which our heroes ...

Orhan 2 Day 48 TE 6053

"Join me or die!"

By the will of the gods (vast fate points) we resist the master sorceror's initial onslaught. Our own attack is quite mighty indeed and at the beginning of the next round, the sorceror shouts, "Damn you alllll.....!" as he vanishes with some sort of teleport spell.

We rush to the other room where Kyrik bashes down the door. It's filled with lots of detrius of various broken armor bits. The room looks like it was the sight of the battle with a demon. Beyond is a further door. Through it, is a room that looks like it's been melted and charred, complete with some fire demon footprints. In the middle of the room is a skeleton lying in pieces; it's clutching something shiny. It turns out to be a ring and a sphere. The ring is mentalism, and the sphere is channeling.

There is the holy symbol of the open palm on the sphere. It's slaying versus one particular person and will cast one Absolution True. The ring is a mentalism adder.

We do some cleanup here and find some silver pieces and a braodsword of magical. Back in his chambers, we find a ring of levitation. Bah, no way to locate him.

We finally go to his book case and look for terrible stuff there. There seem to be lots of sorceror books. In addition to the usual background reading we find spell book for all the Sorcery Base Lists up to 20th.

Back in the first room, we compose the skeleton that had the orb and pray over him and Lo! Does he then arise as a ghost! Staying his wrath, Haeraan allows the spirit of Aliadra, head of the council of Quellborne to speak. "Back in the heyday of our city, we were ruled by a council of mages. One of us betrayed the rest. Xenon the sorceror lead an army into our gates. Suspecting his treachery, we prepared a device against him, yet when I came to stop him, I was too late. A demon of fire appeared and as I lay dying, I managed to curse Xenon and get him to forget all he was and would be. You now must take up my final quest and use the orb of slaying upon him. You need only touch him with it and he will die." D. asks the ghost for information and the ghost responds that he will not leave this place. Were he to venture away, he would age and die. (Woo hoo! We didn't hose the world!)

Aliadra expects him to have teleported to either the council chambers or some obscure corner. Haeraan takes the quest and pledges the party to his quest.

We head back to the one building we hadn't examined. We prep for battle and head in. Scouting around, D. hears some scraping as if someone were baracading a room. We portal through the wall and head in. Xenon is within with six stone golems. Haeraan (with the sphere of slaying) leaps in and bounces off the force wall.We fight!

D. dives in front of Imre and Oathar taking two golems for herself. It's quite dashing. Oathar is very impressed.

After some fighting, Oathar knocks down the force wall and the bad guy casts Black Channels on us all! D. succombs to his evil power and falls. Meanwhile, Haeraan and Kyrik leap forward and continue the fight! Haeraan takes a mightly blow, but shrugs it off and bonks the evil mage with the orb which responds! The orb disintegrates and there's a large explosion. The explosion affects no one but him. It affects him pretty badly though. He ages to his true age and is smote. His ghost rises up and tries to grab us, but can't reach before he is struck by the beam of light form the heavens which sucks him away.

Aliadra returns and praises our success. (+1 fate point) We also get the x2 sorceror multiplier from the dead sorceror. Imre keeps the ashes.

We look around the council tables and do some remaining looting. We examine the theatre and find nothing really interesting.

We flee the city and as night falls a portal appears and sucks us in. We land at the feet of some angry dwarves. We feign confusion. They disarm us anyway. Their Seer told them that the murderers would be reappearing. They march us away.

Orhan 2 Day 49 TE 6053

We are lead into their secret dwarven city. Our stuff "will be returned to you if you are judged innocent."
