Free Fun Friday on June 27

Free Fun Friday, June 27, MIT Museum

Enjoy free admission to the MIT Museum including all activities!

Cambridge, MA, June 9, 2014—The MIT Museum is kicking off summer vacation on June 27 with Free Fun Friday sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation. Enjoy free admission to the museum all day plus indoor and outdoor activities for the whole family.

At the MIT Museum visitors will find the newest exhibition, Inventions: 2014 MIT Student Showcase—11 new, mostly interactive inventions created by MIT undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of disciplines. Peer into the future while looking at a robotic arm, plants that you water with a smart phone and the fun and noisy "DrumTop." Also on display are several student-designed kinetic art pieces, complementing the larger exhibition, 5000 Moving Parts. Holograms, the history of artificial intelligence, Polaroid cameras and their prototypes, as well as slide rules and Doc Edgerton's popular "Piddler Machine" are also to be found at the MIT Museum.

Throughout the day on June 27, there will be drop-in activities for all ages on the first floor of the Museum. Visitors can tap into their inner engineer while learning to build skyscrapers out of paper or an even taller tower from paper cups. Out on Massachusetts Avenue, MIT's "Science on the Street" van will be parked near the Museum with educators pitching and catching, helping fans to better understand the core concepts of the "Science of Baseball" project at MIT.

The MIT Museum's mission is to engage the wider community with MIT's science, technology and other areas of scholarship in ways that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century.
