The MIT Museum and the Fay School proudly present:

The 2010 Rube Goldberg Machine Design Contest

Man teaching group of children

Welcome back to our sixth year of this contest! We are excited to work with this year's 24 teams, some new some old, and see what everyone is going to crank out!

Coaches Training:
Saturday January 16, 2010
Competition Day:
Saturday April 10, 2010

The Rube Goldberg Contest calls for teams of 6 students in grades 7-9 to build an overengineered mechanical device in the spirit of Rube Goldberg to accomplish a certain everyday task. Each team is coached by a teacher or parent who receives coaches training at MIT on Saturday January 16th. Teams are given a standard kit of supplies and three months to design their machines. On April 10, all the teams bring their kits and their plans to the Fay School, in Southborough, Massachusetts, for the Competition Day. After a furious morning of sawing, screwing, and glueing, competing teams test their machines and are judged by engineers from MIT and Massachusetts-based engineering companies.
