Professor
Slocum's research focuses on developing fundamental precision machine design
principles and then proving them via experiments which serve as prototypes
for consumer and industrial products.
Compliant mechanisms,
ultra-precision fixtures and manipulator, formed and folded mechanisms
and machines, layered structure, integrated mechanisms, electronics,
actuators, and sensors.
Applying MEMS
technology to nano-scale systems design. Areas of research include
PZT MEMS for tunable optical devices, MEMS RF switches, piezoelectric micro
power generation and energy harvesting, long-range ordered nano structures,
carbon nanotube assembly and nanopelleting..
