In thinking further on the issue of nuisance wildlife management, I believe that it is important to consider how and why we find ourselves in our current position. It is critical to remember that it is our behavior and our choices that create our conflicts with wildlife, and not the wildlife itself. Our ever-expanding suburbs bump up against, and demolish habitat, and in turn create new habitat that is ideal for generalist species such as Canada geese. It is for this reason that we must think deeply when deciding on a management tactic, thinking of the wildlife as life, not just as an annoyance. |
