May 7, 2012

MIT faculty are invited to a workshop on....

Online Learning for an MIT Education:

At the Intersection of Residential Education and MITx

Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in E14-633

6th floor of the New Media Lab

The workshop presents an opportunity to build on the learnings from recent online initiatives to understand their impact on MIT’s online education. Accordingly, a significant part of the program is designed for us to engage in discussions that will help the constructive integration of online in the residential MIT education.

The goals of the workshop are as follows:

●      Learn about the progress, costs and benefits from online learning experiments undertaken this academic year (MITx, MITCET experiments in MechE, Chemistry, Aero/Astro, online material developed for SUTD, Physics and Biology online material, online material sponsored by D’Arbeloff funds).

●      Identify specific ways that these experiments can help faculty teach in the MIT residential educational system.

●      Identify projects/experiments/themes that MIT should consider to further understanding and implementation of online learning in the MIT curriculum.

The workshop program is attached.

We look forward to your participation in what we hope will be an interesting opportunity to discuss online education at MIT.

Please RSVP by e-mail to aweinber@mit.edu. Please contact Dr. Vijay Kumar (vkumar@mit.edu) for additional information about this workshop.
