Last week's New Media Consortium Summer Conference at MIT, hosted by OEIT, enjoyed attendance far above projected registrations. The sessions and keynotes were received with enthusiasm and sparked vibrant real-time and online discussions in social media.
The over 450 attendees heard from 8 thought leaders such as Malcolm Brown, Lev Gonick, Helen Keegan, VIjay Kumar, Sherry Lassiter and others. The beginning keynote was given by Joi Ito, who implored people to "plan less and do more", and to embrace agile design when creating, inventing and exploring new ideas.
The closing keynote, presented by David Puttnam offered reflections on education, technology and the potential of disruptive innovations to revolutionize the ways students think and learn.
The young leaders forum featured innovators under the age of 30 from all over the globe.
The many break-out sessions and interactive demos offered a window into new initiatives from institutions across the country.
NMC 12 videos were featured on the iTunes U landing page, with well over 4,000 streams and downloads last weekend giving over 13,000 for the week of June 10 - June 16, not counting Sunday's 4,000.
But of more lasting impact is the "subscribes" which reached over 1,600.
For those unable to attend last week's event, all keynotes and plenaries are available to view online on the NMC's iTunes U page.
