We are engaged in an effort to create a Career Development Professorship in honor of Bob Silbey. This endeavor has great meaning for so many, myself included. Bob was not only a colleague and mentor, but also a cherished friend and confidant throughout my career at MIT. Indeed, I can think of few individuals who have had a greater influence, both personally and professionally, on the lives of so many in the MIT community and well beyond. We wish to honor him in perpetuity by supporting young assistant professors about whom he cared so deeply.
Our goal is to raise $2 million dollars – an ambitious one, but one I am confident that we can reach with the help of friends and admirers of Bob. I would be pleased to answer any questions you may have in this regard, and indeed would consider it an honor to discuss this in person.
