| Intro|Requirements|Getting Started|

What's new To see the changes made to the latest version of Roles (1.01b) go to http://web.mit.edu/rolesdb/www/roles101b.html
Requirements for MacRoles
  • A Power Macintosh computer running Mac OS 8.6 or later
  • At least 16 MB of RAM
  • 6.5 MB of hard drive space for SQL*Net
  • 30 MB for the Roles application and its PowerBuilder runtime library files
Before you download...
  1. Under the Apple menu, open Control Panels and choose the Monitors & Sound panel.
  2. Make sure the Resolution setting is at least 640 x 480. If it is any lower, Roles will probably crash.
  3. Close the open Control Panels.
Download the installer Download the Installer. Dowload includes the Roles application, Oracle Client Software, and the PowerBuilder runtime libraries.

(For information on system requirements for Oracle Client Software, see http://web.mit.edu/is/help/sqlnet/)

Run the installer Double-click on the Vise installer file Rolesdb101b_installer which should be on your desktop. (Do not click on the Rolesdb101b_installer.hqx file.)

This will start the installer. The installer will check your hard drive to see what software you already have installed, and it will install the following software components (unless you've already got them):

  • Oracle 7.3 Client software
  • PB5.04 Deployment Kit
  • the Roles DB application version 1.01b
  • FTP tnsnames.ora file
Try running the Roles application To run the Roles application, double-click on the "roles1.01b" icon in your Roles folder. (You cannot run the application unless you have been set up in the Roles Database with a username and password.)

Clean up

If the installation was successful,

  1. Drag the file Rolesdb101b_installer.hqx to the trash.
  2. Drag the file Rolesdb101b_installer to the trash.
  3. Empty the trash by selecting Empty Trash... from the Special menu.
