Eli-Before I did not know a thing about fishing but now I know a heck more than I used to. I know they fish for a living and Monhegan Island is the only place that has a lobstering season in the winter. They also have special parts.

Matt-Yes I do because I wouldn't be able to eat fish for dinner. Solomon's Store wouldn't have all their seafood to sell either.

Abby-I think commercial fishing is important to our town because the fish feeds lot of people. I don't like fish though.

Emily-Yes because I like seafood. Solomon's wouldn't have any lobsters or other seafood and commercial fishermen wouldn't make any money.

Raelene-Commercial fishing is important to our town. If nobody fished commercially then there wouldn't be any fish or lobsters at stores or restaurants.

Victoria-Yes, I do because the prices are going up and down and our town needs seafood. The stores wouldn't have seafood and we couldn't eat it.

Eli-A little bit of both. Yes because if we polluted the Connecticut River it would pollute the ocean and we get lobsters from there. No because we don't have any fishermen up here in Canaan.

Alan-I think it is important. We shouldn't pollute the Connecticut River because our water goes into the ocean. The price of lobsters goes up and down.

Adam-I have learned that commercial fishermen have buoys and their boats have names. They use traps and trawl nets. They also have different kinds of nets. They also catch many sea creatures. They do it for a living. Commercial fishermen fish in many different areas in the world. I know that Mattie is a commercial fishermen.

Emmett-I know that if we dump garbage in the Connecticut River it will flow into the ocean and will kill fish and lobsters. I learned that commercial fishermen see more than fish and lobsters in the ocean.

Emily-I learned there are lots of different pieces of equipment and a lot of different fish. I also learned a commercial fishermen's job isn't easy. I also learned it is dangerous on the sea. I learned the lobster season is from December to May on Monhegan Island. I learned they don't just lobster. I learned that they also use nets to catch fish, like gill nets and trawl nets.

Brian-I learned how to catch lobster and fish. I learned about gill netting and I learned how to cuff the lobsters' claws. I learned how to get a buoy.

They use different kings of nets, like herring nets, trawl nets. I learned that if the waves are high, they still go out fishing in the ocean and if they get thunderstorms they go out too. I learned that Mattie Thomson needs a lot of stuff to go fishing in the ocean.

Eli-I have learned that there are a ton of different buoys. There are different nets and they are all for catching different tings. There are different sizes of nets.

Alan-I have learned that commercial fishing is important. I learned Mattie has a special zone to fish in. The prices go up and down all the time. Mattie fishes for a living. Commercial fishermen go gill netting, trawling and purse seining. Fishermen also fish in the winter.

Courtney-I learned that commercial fishing takes time because if the season is bad you probably won't get a lot of what you're fishing for and you won't get a lot of money. If the season is good, you will probably get a lot of what you are fishing for and will get more money than you id in the bad season. Some things are probably easier than others, like lobster fishing might be easier than gill netting.

Annick-I learned that commercial fishing is really hard because they always have to put the traps in and take them out. They have to wake up very early every day. I learned that commercial fishermen take time because if the weather is bad then they can't go out and then they don't make money to pay their bills and stuff like that. I learned that they go clam digging with a clam digger of course. I learned that there is a gill net, lobster trap and a trawl net.

Amanda-I learned that there are lots of different kinds of nets and equipment to fish with. There's a purse seine, gill net, trawl net, lobster traps and many others. I learned that it is not an easy job. You could get hurt, or even killed. I learned that the price on lobster and fish changes on how many you get. I learned that the seas can be very rough. I also learned that fishermen are always trying new stuff.
