Description:

The exact nature of this theatrical performance is unknown, but the table is currently in Wadleigh room, and the chairs are somewhere in the house. The front door and windows have been replaced, however.

Recently (Feb 2012) John F. Sowa '62 writes:

I was in the MIT class of '62, and I recall a play written by some Senior House residents, which was performed in the courtyard. I don't recall many details, but the actor with the crown on his head could be the king of the mythical kingdom of See Kahn.

There are only three points that I recall about the play:

  1. The national anthem was "O See Kahn you say".
  2. I was a resident of the Russian Dormitory, which occupied the third floor of the Holman entry. And I played the part of the Russian ambassador to See Kahn. I wore a dark suit, and somebody else contributed medals for me to pin on my suit. My only lines were to ad lib in Russian.
  3. After the play, there was a party in Crafts, with a cash bar. But actors got free drinks. The owner of the medals took his medals back. Afterwards, I recall my legs sinking into the concrete as I walked back across the courtyard.

Since I graduated in June 1962, this play would have been performed in May 1962. What evidence is there that the picture is from 1963?

Also, we don't know what the Wadleigh room is now or the current disposition of the table and chairs. They are probably long gone post-renovations. --Zoz
