In the past decade, the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences has been drawn much more closely into the central intellectual mission of MIT. We are committed to providing our students with a broad liberal education in which the humanities, arts, and social sciences play a vital and dynamic role, and we are continuously developing new and innovative ways to enrich the intellectual experiences of our extraordinarily talented students.

Deborah K. Fitzgerald, Kenan Sahin Dean
Professor of the History of Technology in the Program in Science, Technology, and Society, Professor Fitzgerald is very active in the Society for the History of Technology and is immediate past president of the Agricultural History Society. That organization honored her in 2003 with the Theodore Saloutos Prize for best book of the year for Every Farm a Factory: The Industrial Ideal in American Agriculture. She is also the author of The Business of Breeding: Hybrid Corn in Illinois, 1890-1940.

The HASS Office
