Message from Dean Khoury

Dean Philip S. KhouryThis issue of soundings makes a small but significant departure from tradition. It highlights a program—the Graduate Consortium in Women's Studies, or GCWS—that exists outside the formal confines of SHASS. But we at SHASS were thrilled to welcome the GCWS to the MIT campus last fall, and are proud to help build the GCWS into the landscape of women's studies at SHASS. As you will discover in this issue's feature story, the GCWS has a long history of strong involvement by MIT faculty, and we're pleased to promote and strengthen that relationship by having the GCWS in residence here in SHASS. Here's to many more years of fruitful collaboration!
