Shaped by a faculty that includes many of the world's most audacious and celebrated thinkers, SHASS offers undergraduates multi-faceted choice. Students have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, test ideas on a variety of platforms, and develop their skills for debate, analysis, and communication. Intimate classes and a small faculty-to-student ratio enable undergraduates and faculty to form close, productive relationships.
The bottom line is exploration. Students can major in single fields such as economics, work across disciplines in areas like Latin American studies, or pursue concentrations in more than two dozen disciplines, from American studies to writing. It's also possible to supplement studies at MIT by enrolling in classes at Wellesley or Harvard.
