OmniLingua - Spanish Some interesting numbers and a short blurb on telling Spanish apart from Portugeuse.
Spanish in the world - Some statistics and history. By comparing this song to the one by Mijares, you can really hear the differences between Mexican and Castilian Spanish. Listen for the d pronounced as a buzzing th, like the word the (oído, toda, de, decir), the c as a th as in tooth (amanece, hacen), and the ll and y as a j instead of a y sound (estrellas, yo).

Background
I happened upon this song when looking for good Spanish rock, and listened to a few songs by this group over and over till a tired neighbor offered me a CD of Amistades Peligrosas. It's still in heavy rotation though. I highly recommend the newer album, Avalancha.

Lyrics
He oído que la noche
Es toda magia
Y que que un duende te invita a soñar
Y sé que últimamente
Apenas he parado,
Y tengo la impresión de divagar.

Amanece tan pronto
Y yo estoy tan solo

Ye sientes tan fuerte
Que piensas
Que nadie te puede tocar

Amanece tan pronto...
I've heard that the night
Es all magic
That a demon invites you to dream
And I know ultimately
Before I've stopped
I'll have the urge to regress.

Dawn is coming soon
And I'm so alone,
And I don't regret yesterday.
The stars light you
And serve as your guide
You feel so strong,
Thinking
That no one can touch you.

The distances shorten
The hours pass faster
And this room won't stop shrinking
There are so many things to say
So much talking here
If only it were possible to escape this place.

Dawn is coming soon
And I'm so alone,
And I don't regret yesterday.
The stars light you
And serve as your guide
You feel so strong,
Thinking
That no one can touch you.

Dawn is coming soon...
