Head Coach Walter Alessi

Walter Alessi is beginning his 28th season as the men's soccer coach at MIT. Walter's 146-206-27 record places him first on the MIT soccer coaching list in terms of career wins and longevity.

Walter graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a B.S. in physical education in 1968. After graduation Walter served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He then earned an M.Ed. in secondary school administration from Rhode Island College in 1973. In 1981 he received an M.Ed. in physical education from Boston State College.

Walter has worked at World Cup soccer clinics and the All-American Soccer Camp. He has been a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association since 1975.

Presently he is chairman of the New England Division III ranking board and chairman of the New England Region Academic All-America selection committee. Walter is also a member of the ECAC Tournament selection committee and served for many years as the chairman of the NCAA Tournament selection committee.

Prior to MIT, Walter coached at Rogers High School in Newport, RI, and at St. George's School in Middletown, RI, in 1972 and 1973. He then returned to Massachusetts to teach and coach at Westwood High School from 1973-75.

Last year, the Eastern Massachusetts Soccer Coaches Association named Walter the New England College Coach of the Year after the team had one of the best seasons in MIT Soccer history.

In addition to his coaching and physical education responsibilities, Walter coordinates the MIT Intramural Program and is the head coach of the men's varsity lacrosse team. E-mail Coach Alessi


Assistant Coach Gary Brown

Gary Brown is in his 2nd year of coaching with the MIT men's soccer team. Gary graduated from Millis HS in 1993 where he played soccer & Basketball.

In 1997 Gary graduated from Springfield College with a major in sports management and a minor in business. He played one year of varsity soccer for the Pride. From 1988 to 1995, he was a B.A.Y.S. (Boston Area Youth Soccer) Official.

Gary is currently the director of operations at the Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation. E-mail Coach Brown
