Design Notebook Exercise 1
Design engineers use their notebooks as an official record of
the work they have done. Not only is it useful to have all the
information about a project in a single place, but the notebook can
also be used a legal document in the patent process.
All the work that you do on your project should be done in
your design notebook. Resist the temptation to do "scratch work"
outside of the book. You may want to have some pages which are
"scratch pages" followed by pages where the work is neatly summarized.
Summarized work should be done in pen but sketches and the like can be
done in pencil. You should be sure to put the date on each page. If
you find information from an outside source that you want to include
in your design notebook, you should make a copy of it and paste it
into your notebook.
Your first assignment is to find out as much as you can about
health issues in Africa (and/or other developing reginos of the
world). You should then make a list of the five issues that you feel
are the most important and be prepared to discuss them in class next
week.
