Design Notebook Exercise 5
As you continue with the detailed design of your device, it is
important that you identify the critical elements of your design and
that you perform the necessary analysis to ensure the desired
performance. Work in your groups and with your advisors to identify
these elements. Start by making a list of those components which
require detailed modelling or analysis (such as analyzing the stresses
in the components which are bearing the heaviest loads). Next,
identify those components which should be optimized (for example, to
optimize the amount material used and thus reduce cost). Finally,
identify the components which require some detail design, but do not
require significant calculations (for example, the dimensions of the
housing of the device). Be sure to keep track of your analyses in
your design notebook.
