Peer Resources: Current Initiatives

Web Site

Since 2004, we have an ongoing initiative to provide and educational tool to MIT's workplace. Updates and additions welcome. The near-future plan will transform the content into a staff website from the MIT home page.

Career Paths Event for MIT Support Staff

Plans are in formation to host an event where suppport staff can meet MIT staff who are already in positions of a particular career. We will focus on people in hiring positions to have them discuss the career paths in their department, office or area. The estimated time frame for the event to occur is Fall 2008.

Several of our ideas can only come to life if the offices governing them are willing and able to take on the project proposed. Thus, the following suggestions can be held up due to timing, money and/or interest. We state this as an honest representation and not as a judgement as there are many sound initiatives waiting for action.

Campus Map Improvements: Campus at a Glance Idea

Proposal sent to Facilities and IS&T to create a more interactive map that educates staff on the locations, organizational structure, Schools and interdisciplinary groups on the campus.

Further Educational Tools on Accounting and Finance Policies and Processes

We are currently assembling a proposal for flowcharts, further tips and checklists to help staff see the big and small picture of managing finance and accouting matters. One example of a bigger picture concept is how vendors, guest speakers and faculty get paid/reimbursed: how and when are invoices, purchase orders, requests for payment, and vouchers interconnected and when are they not. A small picture concept would be on creating concise complete journal voucher explainations.
