Contest Rules

**This site contains the OFFICIAL RULES for the Hotel @ MIT Flash Contest.  Amendments, and updates will be posted here.**
page updated May 4, 2001

  1. Registration:
    • You must register as a consultant at the Student Technology Consultant's web site.
      • This step places you in STC's database as someone capable of doing future jobs for STC, and provides you with a high-paying job option, but in no way obliges you to any employment.
    • You must also register as a contestant on this web site.
    • Registration shows that you have read and agree to the Intellectual Property Statement.
  2. Guidelines:
    • Movies must be at least three seconds long, and preferably no more than ten.
    • Please include (not embedded in the movie) a "skip intro" link, which points to http://www.hotelatmit.com/home/home.html
      • This is primarily for those users with text-only browsers, or for those users who do not wish to sit through the intro. Ideally, your design will be so good that the user will not want to use this button!
    • Use of previously copyrighted materials such as mp3's or images not taken by you or explicitly allowed for use by the hotel is prohibited. We encourage as much audio/visual innovation as possible, but if you plan to use copyrighted material we insist you first acquire permission from the author and provide evidence to us.
  3. Time Frame:
    • Registration has closed for this event.
    • The proposal deadline has passed. Good work everyone!
    • Submission deadline has passed. Even better work, everyone!
    • The awards reception will be held at the Hotel@MIT on the evening of Tuesday, May 8. Show up between 5:30 and 6 to get a feel for the hotel, meet the judges and each other, snack a bit. Presentations and awards begin at 6, and end between 6:30 and 7. If you can not make this event but would still like to claim your prize (at the very least, everyone gets a certificate to Sidney's Grille), let one of us know and we will make arrangements.
  4. Submission Guidelines:
    • Final deadline for submissions was 5pm on April 11, 2001.
    • We prefer the final submission to be in one of two formats:
      1. A flash movie (.swf) that automatically takes the user to http://www.hotelatmit.com/home/home.html when the movie is finished.
      2. An HTML file with this movie embedded in it, and which includes the aforementioned "skip intro" link.
    • Please submit entries over the web, and send us the URL. If this isn't possible, email us and we will set up a meeting time.
  5. Prizes:
    • All designs with accepted proposals will be judged by a diverse panel to be announced.
    • First prize is $500 cash, while second prize is a $300 gift certificate at Best Buy, and third is a $200 gift certificate.
    • The Hotel @ MIT reserves the right to use all, some, or none of the submitted designs. Winning a prize is not a confirmation of having your entry featured on the hotel's web site.
    • Any design the Hotel @ MIT uses will be bought for $500 for the period of one year, with the option to renew (under the same time frame and pricing scheme).
