Composer Performs

The Townsman, Andover, Massachusetts, Aug. 10, 1967

Composer Richard St. Clair performed a specially commissioned piano composition {Piano Piece no. 2} Wednesday in Kemper Auditorium at Phillips Academy.

The young composer, a senior at Harvard, is on the faculty of the 1967 Andover Summer Session and is teaching the inter-disciplinary course "Twentieth Century Concepts" which explores the important ideas and movements of the contemporary world through study of its music, art, and literature.

St. Clair described his new work, which was commissioned by the Summer Session, as "highly diversified but highly structured". At Harvard, he has studied music under Leon Kirchner and has also worked with Luciano Berio who is leader of what the young musician calls the "musical left wing".
