Future Mapping® Exercise Endstates
The following 'endstates' were developed by NerveWire of
Boston as part of their "Mapping the Future Architecture
of Business" workshop. NerveWire offers this as a description
of an 'endstate' as a reference with this exercise."An endstate,
in the Future Mapping® process, is a snapshot of a particular
point in the future (in this case, 2005), which focuses on key
issues deliberately chosen to illustrate strategic alternatives.
The endstates are written to be as different from each other as
possible while still remaining plausible. They are also designed
to make clear several alternative business architectures that
could emerge. Not all issues are described in every endstate."
NerveWire proposes 5 separate endstates for the year 2005:
A. The Net Rush
B. The Customer-Centric Company
C. Global Open Value Webs
D. The Swarm Economy
E. Complex Adaptive Giants
In considering these endstates, one often discovers being attracted
to some of the ideas in every endstate. Remember that no endstate
is written to be THE complete answer. Consider the net of the
trade-offs in each and compare them relative only to each other
on the ranking dimensions. Chances are, your choices will be highly
subjective, driven by just a few endstate characteristics that
are most important to you.
