< MIT Health & Wellness Surveys:
2014 Community Attitudes on Sexual Assault

Invitation from the Chancellor

Subject: Community Attitudes on Sexual Assault
Date: April 25 or April 28

Dear {Firstname, e.g., John},

As I hope you know, President Reif has asked me to take on, as one of my early priorities, the problem of sexual assault at MIT. As part of my learning, earlier this month, I asked MIT students for help with understanding how sexual assault affects our community. Many of you attended listening sessions with me, where students spoke openly and personally about sexual assault at MIT, or wrote me directly to share your views. I'm writing now to ask you, and all students, to respond to a brief survey to lend your own voice and perspective on this important issue. Please know that it is imperative to my learning to get as many students to complete this survey.

Share your perspective on Sexual Assault at MIT >>
This is a unique link assigned to you that will only work once and will not have any identifying information attached to it. Please do not share it with others.

I know end of term can be a challenging time for students, but I hope you can find a few minutes to respond before the survey closes in late May. As an incentive, every student who completes the survey will be offered a $10 thank you gift: your choice of $10 TechCASH, a $10 donation to Violence Prevention and Response at MIT Medical, or a $10 donation to Stop Our Silence, a student group dedicated to bringing awareness to the problem of sexual assault.

Thank you,

Cynthia Barnhart
Chancellor

Reminder from Director of MIT Medical

Subject: This Health Hazard Affects Us All
Date: Sun, 4 May 2014
From: Dr. William Kettyle

Dear {Firstname, e.g., John},

Earlier this week Chancellor Barnhart sent you an individual survey link you can use to share your perspective on how sexual assault affects our campus. As medical director at MIT Medical, I'm writing to encourage you to help us eliminate the health hazard of sexual assault from our campus by clicking on the link below and completing this anonymous survey.

The calculus is simple: More respondents equal better data. Better data equal stronger response. Stronger response promotes a healthier campus. We need everyone's viewpoint. It all starts with you.

As a thank you, at the end of the survey you may choose to receive $10 in TechCash or make a $10 donation to Violence Prevention and Response at MIT Medical or to Stop Our Silence, a student group dedicated to bringing awareness to this issue.

Thank you,

William Kettyle
Medical Director, MIT Medical
