Every other Friday, we're hosting a study break to give our members a chance to wind down from the week and to chill with their SWE pals. Usually, this will happen in the SWE Office on the 4th floor of the Student Center, but next week we'll do it in Lobby 10.
No fooling, we really did this! This is a campus-wide design competition. Everyone (including non-SWE members, faculty, alumni, staff, high schoolers) is welcomed to join in the fun. Click HERE for more information.

We will be discussing the new MIT-Merill Lynch partnership for research and financial technology. Dinner served at the beginning! Join us for an ulra-casual Freshman Mentoring Brunch! Upperclassmen, this is your chance to shed wisdom to the freshmen concerning questions about spring semester classes and major choice for freshmen. MIT IEEE and MIT SWE present with I B M a talk by John Patrick, IBM Vice President, Internet Technology. Don't miss this chance to learn more about this new internship program, grab free food, and sign up for door prizes! (food and prizes before talk). What is eXtreme BLUE? Last summer, a group of 24 interns from MIT and other top 10 C.S. and engineering schools worked on the hottest projects for IBM Advanced Internet Technologies, had lunch with IBM executives, and heard cool talks by IBM's top researchers! More general information about the program can be found at Extreme Blue. A fun day of painting walls and murals at the Boston Housing Authority youth center. Our guest this evening is Vanu Bose, founder of Vanu Inc. and an MIT alumnus. We'll be discussing the ins and outs of starting your own company, what you can do with your MIT degree, and more, all while munching on delicious Thai food. This is the biggest career fair on campus (and the only one this fall), so make sure you don't miss out! MITSWE is helping to co-sponsor this event, and we will have the traditional banquet with recruiters, FREE for members. For more information, please look at the career fair web page. A panel of seasoned recruiters from IBM, Intel, AMS, Kurt Salmon, Goldman Sachs, and Banta Integrated Media will speak on a particular topic and their own personal recruiting perspective. Some topics addressed will include resume do's/don'ts, particular things they've noticed about mit students, and the difference between interviewing and bragging. Please see the career fair page for more details. An interactive discussion and presentation on consulting by Kurt Salmon Associates, a consulting firm with a unique environment and bright future. Food and prizes will be provided so come and be prepared to learn what consulting is all about! Come to our first meeting of the year! MITSWE had a booth full of info, forms, and cookies for those interested in finding out more about the group.
