Walking around my Newbury site while looking for the occurrence of natural processes was a new experience. When I was on my first trip for the natural process assignment, I didn’t know what to look for. I took a few pictures of buildings that looked cool, the Prudential Center, and many others that hadn’t any importance. I even got sidetracked and did a little shopping. But after the class field trip on Monday and my reading of The Granite Garden, I realized that there were many things that I could look for. One category was pavement types. I could now get an idea of how water and traffic affected the different pavements. Another category was sunlight. I know that sunlight is very important but when I looked at the different sides of Commonwealth Avenue, I could see the drastic differences.

Flowers began to bud on the north side of the street (Figure 1) and there was still a lot of snow on the south side of the street (Figure 2). I managed to stay focus on my assignment. I found so many interesting things to take pictures of. The only setback was I ran out of memory on my phone to take pictures. It was a great learning experience for me.
