Dr. Henry Smith - The Joseph F. and Nancy P. Keithley Professor of Electrical Engineering , Director, NanoStructures Laboratory on behalf of the MIT Provost, Robert A. Brown and the NanoStructures Laboratory at MIT, is the main sponsor of the NanoStructures Seminar Series.

The NanoStructures Laboratory (NSL) at MIT develops techniques for fabricating surface structures with feature sizes in the range from nanometers to micrometers, and uses these structures in a variety of research projects. The NSL is closely coupled to the Space Nanotechnology Laboratory (SNL) with which it shares facilities and a variety of joint programs. The NSL and SNL include facilities for lithography (photo, interferometric, electron-beam, and x-ray), etching (chemical, plasma and reactive-ion), liftoff, electroplating, sputter deposition, and e-beam evaporation. Much of the equipment, and nearly all of the methods, utilized in the NSL/SNL are developed in house. Generally, commercial processing equipment, designed for the semiconductor industry, cannot achieve the resolution needed for nanofabrication, is inordinately expensive, and lacks the required flexibility for our research. The research projects within the NSL/SNL fall into three major categories: (1) development of nanostructure fabrication technology; (2) short-channel semiconductor devices, nanomagnetics and microphotonics; (3) periodic structures for x-ray optics, spectroscopy, atomic interferometry and nanometer metrology.

TinyTech would like to thank Isaac M. Colbert,
Dean for Graduate Students, and the Graduate Student Office for their participation as founding sponsors.

The GSO complements the individual departments' administration and advocates broadly for graduate education. The GSO comprises the Office of the Dean for Graduate Students, the International Students Office, and the Graduate Student Council. Together, we foster academic excellence and quality of life for MIT's community of graduate students. We are located just off the Infinite Corridor in Room 3-138.

What is TechLink?

TechLink is a student organization formed in 1999 as a joint initiative between the Graduate Student Council (GSC) and the Sloan Senate. Its goal is to help integrate the business, science and engineering sides of the MIT campus into a common community of innovation. We attract interdisciplinary audiences to events such as laboratory tours, technology business talks, and research fairs. We also host elegant social events to facilitate interaction and networking within MIT and beyond. TechLink has become "the place to find" entrepreneurial-minded technologists, business students, faculty, and alumni on the MIT campus.

How Do I get Involved?

The TechLink core group meets every Tuesday at the Muddy Charles at 6:30pm.
Drop by one of our meetings, or send an email to techlink-officers@mit.edu.

The Graduate Student Council of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has provided event funding to MIT TinyTech.  We look forward to continuing a positive relationship and increasing the scope of our impact on the future of MIT Graduate Students.

The Graduate Student Council (GSC) consists of elected representatives from academic departments and graduate living groups. The GSC is primarily concerned with promoting the general welfare and concerns for the graduate student body, and communicating with the MIT faculty and administration on their behalf. The major functional goals this year are:
    1) Improving communications
    2) Strengthening internal MIT collaborations
    3) Increased accountability
Less seriously, the GSC also sponsors many social, cultural, and athletic events throughout the entire year to help improve the quality of life for graduate students.
