Director Biography: Nhung Truong

Nhung Truong is the newly appointed Director of Music at the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, MA. At Nobles, she conducts the Upper School Concert Choir, Middle School Chorus, Imani (Multi-Cultural and Gospel ensemble), and music directs the Nobleonians (tenor-bass a cappella group) the Half-Notes (middle school a cappella group), and the annual school musical.

Outside of classroom teaching, Nhung is active in many organizations that allow her to serve the greater choral community, and learn from and share knowledge with choral colleagues. She has served as the Seniors Choir Director for the North End Music and Performing Arts Center, a program bringing live music and singing to local senior and rehabilitation centers. A frequent guest conductor, Nhung has been invited to conduct the Laurel Music Camp Choir for three summers in Connecticut, and the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) Western Junior District Honor Choir. 

Nhung is a member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), for whom she currently serves as the Diversity Chair for the Massachusetts chapter, most recently spearheading the development of their Diversity Mission Statement, and is currently serving as Manager for the MMEA All-State Chorus. An advocate for innovation and community building in the choral rehearsal space, she has presented sessions titled “Vocal Improvisation in the Virtual World” and “Building Community Through the Choral Warm-Up” at the NAfME Eastern Region Conference and the Massachusetts ACDA Summer Conference respectively, and also presented a Middle School Choir Repertoire Session at this year’s MMEA All-State Conference. She also participated in the Sarteano Choral Conducting Workshop in Sarteano, Italy as an invited Full Conductor. As a performer, Nhung sings alto in the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and previously sang with the Seraphim Singers.

Nhung holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from UMass-Amherst and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Providence College.
