ECOLOGICAL / PLANT COMMUNITIES
Just like there are many kinds of human neighborhoods, so too are there many different kinds of plant neighborhoods, or communities.  Some communities live where resources are abundant, some where life is hard and the elements necessary for survival are sparse.   Some plant neighborhoods are very diverse with many different varieties of plants, and others have only a few different kinds of plants living together.  All communities experience successful years of good health and prosperity, and other lean years, perhaps when sickness or old age dominates the group.  But plant neighborhoods always rebound.  Often a new group of plants come to an ecological community and improve upon what was there before.  Without exception, a diverse community of different plants performing different roles in the neighborhood is more successful than a homogenous population.
