ECOLOGICAL BOUNDARIES
Different combinations of plants comprise different ecological communities.  The neighborhoods these communities inhabit are defined by different characteristics.  Amount of sun, amount of water, type of soil, and geographic location can effect what ecosystem occupies which place.

When settlers first moved to West Philadelphia, Mill Creek ran through the neighborhood collecting excess surface water and providing moisture to stream-side communities, both natural and human.
