An Environmental/Community-Based
Curriculum for Urban Schools

Urban Environmental Education Curriculum at Sulzberger

Beginning fall 1996, faculty and students at Penn and teachers at Sulzberger Middle School will develop and implement an integrated environmental education curriculum focusing on the urban watershed, its history and continuing influence on the Mill Creek neighborhood.

Sulzberger Middle School is located on and near the old floodplain of Mill Creek. The school grounds and vacant land in the surrounding neighborhood present an opportunity for studying the processes of nature at work. A new curriculum, organized around "The Urban Watershed," will integrate learning, community development, and water resource management.
