A Training offered by the Office of Student Outreach and Support

14th Series Begins January 20, 2015

Welcome to the When Support Gets Personal (WSGP) home page. The goal of this program is to provide comprehensive information about MIT Support resources and the most effective means by which departmental administrators may refer students in need to those services.

You can enroll by sending an email to Sharon Snaggs Gendron, snaggs@mit.edu. Space is limited to 25 participants and it will fill quickly. Please RSVP now! We will maintain a waiting list. Participants are expected to attend all sessions.

Why WSGP?

This program seeks to fulfill the recommendation of the MIT Mental Health Task Force Report, Recommendations Section 3.5.1, which suggests:

Train at least one staff member, most likely an Undergraduate or Graduate Administrator, in each academic department to be Departmental Liaisons for Support Services... This person should serve as a resource for departmental faculty and staff who are concerned about a student, as well as for the students in the department.

The Departmental Liaisons will be trained to:

  • recognize common signs of student stress and distress
  • be familiar with all of the support services at MIT
  • understand MIT's confidentiality & communication policies

This program is provided by the Office of Student Outreach and Support and organized by the WSGP Steering Committee.
