Hello! I am Zhengmao Lu, an incoming tenure-track assistant professor at EPFL Mechanical Engineering (starting in February 2023).

I am currently a postdoctoral associate in Prof. Jeffrey Grossman's research group in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. Previously, I did my PhD in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, advised by Prof. Evelyn Wang.

My PhD thesis has focused on fundamentally understanding liquid-gas interfacial transport with the help of micro/nanoengineering. I am currently working on creating high performace passive cooling solutions for buildings and perishable goods with novel engineered materials. My research generally focus on optimizing water and energy systems from the perspective of interfacial transport.

I have a strong interest in converting lab research into commercializable products. I have previously participated in startup business programs such as The Engine and NE I-Corps.

Latest highlight:

Manuscript co-first-authored by Zhengmao, "Significantly enhanced sub-ambient passive cooling enabled by evaporation, radiation, and insulation", has been published in Cell Reports Physical Science. (September 2022)
