The Savior of Chaos has found the first group of mages creating relay points for Barimen's modifications of Chaos. He leaves a regular tendril on each of them so he could find them in the future. The second relay point coincides spatially with the power source that Bronelle was using. Ilk drops off a note at the Assassins' Guild notifying them that House Barimen seems to be involved with the power source that Bronelle was using.
Cailin, still at the Assassins' Guild, receives the note, chats with Ilk, and passes it on. The Guild orders Cailin to stay away from House Barimen - they don't want him getting caught in the backlash.
Cailin asks Ilk to find the missing healer, and explains. Ilk looks and doesn't see the healer in this reality. Ilk suggests that he find Caine and ask what reality he was in. Ilk asks Jean if he can see the missing healer. Jean says that he's still there. Ilk and Jean talk about testing that reality for Logrus, and then determine that Cailin can probably find the guy magically if he gets into the same shadow. Cailin is filled in and talks to Jean about whaling to that place. The whale is receiving dental surgery, so is determined to be unavailable.
Cailin asks for the old technique; Jean waffles and then asks for a trump of Cailin. Cailin tries to figure out how to get a trump of himself. Tate's trump is warm.
Jean worries about his god-hood or lack thereof. He asks the fudge-sicles what name they call their god. "The tasty and powerful one." They are determined to be too stupid to live, and are destroyed by Jean. Jean checks with the Dancers' Guild. They've never heard of anything referred to or matching the description of a fudgesicle. A Dancer is fished to the fudgesicles, but can't see them. Jean determined that he is hallucinating.
Jean realizes that Rainbow may have modified his minions to exclude fudgesicles from their reality, and fishes in a member of Swayville, who sees a bunch of dripping things on sticks. The member of Swayville is thanked and returned; the Dancer is also thanked and returned.
Jean, in Arden, approaches the butterfly playing with the cat and says, "Fudgesicle". Rainbow twitches and falls Jean's shoulder. "So it's your fault!" The butterfly flutters away, with a Jean in pursuit.
Cailin tracks down the yeti-howl in the distance. He finds the bug-yeti running around a Moebius strip above the punch bowl at the party at House Cara. Cailin plucks the bug off the strip and talks to it. The bug admits to having seen Tate in a dungeon in Faerie, which is currently dark.
Cailin talks with Jean, decides that he wants to go to Dworkin, grabs his son and the bug, and marches to a window near a gate. Kieron refuses to go any farther.
"The Princess said don't go through holes. It's bad."
They discuss the situation. Kieron and the screaming bug are left behind. Cailin goes through, is acknowledged as Dworkin's Cailin, and returns. Cailin tells Kieron that he'll be back in a bit, and returns to talk with Dworkin again.
Cailin, Jean, and Dworkin discuss Natasha, Dworkin's insanity, and Ingold's collapse half-way along his Pattern.
Dworkin stages a demonstration with a bowl of water, lettuce, a few olives, and builds two mountains of sand beneath two of the pieces of lettuce, one large and solid and another fragile. He takes a toothpick and stabs it through the center of the piece of barely-balanced lettuce into the pile of sand, then strikes another toothpick through the center of the lettuce into a pile of sand at the edge of the piece.
Dworkin tries again, building mountains and valleys out of duct tape, and pours the remaining water into valleys. The big puddle over there is where Dworkin is crazy. That puddle over there is the place where he was losing his memory. Those couple of drops of water on this mountain over here are where they are now.
Cailin asks what could be causing the rifts in reality. Dworkin pulls out the piece of ripped lettuce. Jean curses. "Fudgesicle". Dworkin offers him one. Jean is horrified, and almost explains. Dworkin tosses the fudgesicle through the rift over Arden such that it falls past Jean and Rainbow. Rainbow flies faster.
Jean gives Hamster Dworkin a lift to the closer window in that reality and through into Ferethyn's place. They are introduced by Jean. Dworkin remembers Ferro.
Dworkin tells Cailin that his primary descendency is Princess Chandra, so he's effectively native to this reality. Dworkin says that Princess Chandra's descendency is even more powerful than his, and that Cailin is descended from _this_ Princess Chandra, not a different one.
Jean brings up the various powers, as well as Dworkin's theory about the misalignment causing the rifts. Jean points out that there have been new rifts in Chaos recently. Cailin tries to explain Bibliomancy to the Dworkins.
Dworkin offers to fix the whale.
