There are dragons hunting through Chaos for Caine. Cailin is worried.
Cailin moves his magely encampment back into the magic tracking shadow, via a boring shadow, after persuading a dragon that he wouldn't lie to it. He finds a mage and a turtle. One of Cailin's birds swoops back. It bears a message from the Assassins' Guild. His grandmother is inquiring after the health and well-being of his House second.
Cailin takes the time to write a note back to his grandmother telling her how Caine has been leading him in circles. A few minutes later he gets a note back suggesting that he perhaps use different resources available to him that can now be acknowledged in Chaos.
Cailin gates from the magic tracking shadow near the Assassins' Guild and starts walking towards the Guild. He can see dragons in the sky over Chaos. There is no longer a line of people attached to the Savior of Chaos tape, but there is a dragon stuck on the tape.
The archivist is waiting for Cailin at the Assassins' Guild. He's alive, and no longer has a hole in his chest. The archivist tells Cailin that Norton, on his way out, walked past the Savior of Chaos tape, started muttering about finding his hammer, and wandered off.
Cailin heads inside to talk to his grandmother. The path that he takes this time is different, but he seems to know the way regardless. He reaches her office, and enters. Princess Chandra is sitting at her desk with her feet up. There is a bloody, mutilated head on either side of her chair, and there is still a spot of blood on the back of her head. He greets her - she's quite well, and seems cheerful. They talk about the missing second of House Moonlight. Cailin says that Caine is currently being hunted by dragons, which seemed like a fair exchange for the run-around he gave him. Princess Chandra is amused, tells Cailin to stay here, and disappears.
Ilk notices a surge of Serpent power in the Assassins' Guild, and follows it to the Serpent's Antechamber. He arrives moments after Princess Chandra, who nods to Kieron and him. Kieron is singing a song to the Serpent, so the Serpent is in fact present. Ilk bows to Princess Chandra as is appropriate in this place, and assumes the "in the presence of the Serpent" position". Kieron finishes his song, bows quite appropriately to the Serpent, turns to Princess Chandra, and goes on at some length. He hugs her; she ruffles his hair and smiles at him.
Princess Chandra turns to the Serpent and says, "Your children are hunting".
The Serpent replies, "My children stir themselves?" She waves her hand and uses some Serpent Power to recall Cailin's exact voice and phrasing. The Serpent sighs and says, "My children are too active".
Ilk mentions to the Serpent that he seems to have acquired a dragon in his head. The Serpent replies, "Of course". Ilk fails to understand, so smiles and nods. Ilk feels the dragon stir and bow to the Serpent. The Serpent acknowledges the dragon in return.
Princess Chandra turns to Ilk, pats him on the shoulder, and steps out.
Princess Chandra steps back into her office. "Well, thank you for that information." Cailin asks Princess Chandra if they should try to get rid of them. "Why?" Cailin tries to explain that the dragons are in the way, especially in Toram's lands, where they seem to think that he is their protector.
