A dragon returns to speak with Cailin about the disposition of lands protected by the dragons. They talk, and determine that Cailin will be given an escort to ensure that he does no harm to those lands as he examines them for the source of the snow. However, after a mention of Cataan blocking death and magic, the dragon decides that he should check there first.
Cailin gates to Cataan, leaving the dragon around his House. His gate, set to time out, melts behind him. He creates a light spell and another gate, but they fail to bite. He opens a gate to Toram's lands, talks with a dragon, and convinces it to give him a ride to the Isle of the Dead. He enters the dragon.
Neville has woken up, discovered that his armor was out of power, and gone off to walk the Primal Pattern. He finishes, and has the Pattern teleport him back to the beginning of the Pattern to examine his armor. He determines that it will take a while to fix, and returns to the Old Lord meeting.
Ilk notices that Neville's Pattern is dimmer than usual.
Neville goes over to Flora. She's chatting with Jean. Neville asks for an update. She says that Ilk tossed him, apparently to Amber, defeated the new Old Lord, and have mostly sat around chatting since.
Neville and Flora talk. Flora says that she got along with Eric the best, and that Eric got along with Julian fairly well. Jean interjects that Julian is still alive. Flora and Neville are shocked.
There is a shambling dead person walking towards Neville. It moans, "Telegram", and hands Neville a piece of paper. He opens it. It's from Qrelon. It says, "POWDER STOP"
Neville and Jean discuss invading Gwen's lab again, now that they can use the whale.
Jean goes up to check the front door. There is nothing, just bare rock and powder. No soil, no Qrelon.
A large dragon flies over Chaos and out into the Sea of Chance. It seems to be carrying the largest portion of magic left in this reality.
Osric asks after Cailin, and is disappointed to discover that he just flew into the Sea of Chance.
Osric asks Snarsht if he could help recover Rainbow. Snarsht is generally un-helpful. Osric tries to over-ride their conflict, but generally fails. Jean relays the conversation verbatim to REN. REN wants to build a dog... He asks Jean for a Fenris wolf, maybe two.
Osric and Jean talk about the others that are missing -- Jenoir and Andron in particular. Various people worry (or not) about Jenoir. Ilk mentions that she was researching Cataan shortly before her disappearance.
Snarsht has turned around and said, "What do you mean, all six knives? What happened to the other one?" Various people panic. The remaining six knives are lined up in front of Snarsht, looking contrite. There are ten members of the Healers' Guild in training also there, also looking contrite.
Neville tries to herd cats, with less success than Snarsht. Snarsht helps.
Neville goes off to the side and trumps the missing dagger. He fails, due to distance.
Andron is added to the missing list, in circumstances identical to Jenoir's.
Ingold is missing. Gerard is ... in dire straits. Sir Erik is missing. One Norton is missing. Corwin, Cassandra, and Malachai are believed to be in Pearl, but that cannot currently be confirmed.
Benedict looks disturbed at the discussion of Ingold's absence.
Cailin conjures a Sauron Jean and a hobbit generator to the Isle of the Dead, and gates to the location of the mages. None of the spells generate snow.
The dragon isn't sure why the tree is so interested in hobbits - they don't taste very good.
Cailin talks with the dead mages. He talks about finding Sparrowhawk. He opens a gate and finds himself at the feet of the Mountains of Pain. Sparrowhawk is there. He's mostly inconsistent, muttering about the memories of life being foremost in his mind, and starts to climb the Mountains of Pain. Cailin tries to stop him; Sparrowhawk demands a body.
Sparrowhawk implies to Cailin that he was born on this side of the mountains, and states that Cailin speaks like a dragon. Sparrowhawk demands a body with no name that he can claim.
Cailin gates back to the dragon. There are the chewed remains of boiled, baked, and fried hobbits around. Cailin conjures a hobbit covered in sour cream and chives. Cailin relays Sparrowhawk's requests. The dragon prepares to head off in search. Jean creates a hobbit and mind-wipes it. Jean eats the body.
Cailin conjures a mage, and Jean mind-wipes it. Cailin asks the dragon if he can remove its name. The dragon states that it needs a waterfall. Cailin conjures two gates with running water. The dragon continues. "Take the body. Walk it through the water. The running water dissolves all ties."
Cailin heads to the top of the mountains and meets up with Sparrowhawk.
Sparrowhawk throws himself off the mountain. Cailin gates to the bottom, re-establishes the waterfall, tosses the body through the waterfall, and re-names it to Get. Sparrowhawk fills the body. He stretches, pulls power, and casts, and the body is Sparrowhawk, in his prime.
Cailin tries to open a gate to Cataan, and finds it out of range. Sparrowhawk scries with the pit of water and boiling hobbit-juices, and displays an image of the sun and planets.
Cailin starts to explain the Cataan/dragon thing, then just sums up.
They discuss transportation, and then Jean brings in the whale. The whale romps in the surf.
["Step into my whale," said the tree.]
Cailin and Sparrowhawk are delivered to Chaos, but not near the Old Lord meeting. The whale and fish are dropped off at EarthSea to play. The whale is delighted to be the largest aquatic animal here; the fish detects the other predators and flees back into Jean.
