Johnny is on a Kzinti spaceship with a Jean-doy. He plays with the food processor for a while, then the ship lands and a green-bug-like thing in a black kimono comes in and bows. After a bit of back and forth, the bug starts talking in Thari.
He plays with the in-ship communications for a while, then the bug returns with a Kzinti. "Your host wishes to know if you are the one who was prophecied."
The bug pads Johnny's side of the conversation out quite a bit, then the Kzin wheels and stalks out. The bug states that they learned Thari from a giant cat.
After a while, the Kzin comes back with a picture-book of the prophecy.
Johnny decides to ...
There is a knocking on Ilk's door in Chaos. It's Verra. At least, it looks like Verra. But she doesn't sound like Verra... she's being deferential. Ilk asks Jean where Verra is -- she's in Vanir's Wrath, conducting a ceremony. Ilk asks Jean to tell her that there is an imposter in her form, once she's free.
Ilk tells Rainbow about the imposter, and he asks Ilk to let him know when the fun starts.
Ilk plays elevator music near the door to keep the imposter's attention.
Ilk gives Verra coordinates via Jean. Verra appears next to Verra.
Rainbow Logrus-pulls to Chaos.
Verra gives a staged wink at the world then casts an illusion of herself into a wisened old crone. Rainbow arrives, sees the Verra and the old crone, and shapeshifts into an old man. The old woman comes up to the old man, and they cackle at each other.
The old crone comes up to Verra and says, "Is this where we wait for the Savior of Chaos?"
"Yes"
"Are you next?"
"Yes."
"Well, did you knock correctly?"
"I don't know... the Savior of Chaos's voice said that I would be dealt with in the order that I was received."
She comes up to the door, wipes her nose on her sleeve, and pounds on the door. "Yes?" "Is this the great and all-powerful Oz?"
Verra hems and haws and claims that her problem can only be solved by the Savior of Chaos. The old lady claims that anything can be solved over tea, and guides Verra over to the bench.
The old man refuses to give the old woman any tea, and they start slapping at each other, but every time that they block each other, they hit the Verra. The old man decides that this is a waste of space. The old lady grabs Verra. The old man grabs the old lady's hair and extends a hand to Ilk's tendrils.
Verra translates the group to the Paths of the Dead. The old lady now looks like Verra, the old man looks like Rainbow, and the fake Verra looks somewhat out of focus.
There is a tea serving right there.
The faux Verra brings a magical attack against Verra who, of course, blocks it. Verra casts an illusion of darkness around her. The fake Verra screams, tries to claw her eyes out, and starts staggering around randomly. Verra has two purple robes keep the woman from falling off of anything.
Ilk can't tell much of anything about the imposter. Verra didn't even care.
Rainbow is already gone. Ilk heads off to Amaranth, who is currently interviewing candidates for Guild Second.
Amaranth notices Ilk, the interview-ee doesn't. Amaranth finishes the interview, and ushers the person out.
In walks an eight-legged human who bows ...
Never walked the Spiral. Not used to the major pools in Chaos. Never was a Guild Member. Never taught by a Guild Member. ... a left handed flutter here... The only one who this is at all close to is a gentleman named Bleys. They might have shared a teacher.
Ilk shows the guy the signature of Toram Junior. Crude. Very crude. Taught by a Guild mage, possibly a high level Guild mage. Didn't like his teacher very much. Fairly young. Has had several teachers since his original one. Started at a young age, possibly before the magic manifested itself. "If I didn't know better, I would say that he was even taught by one of [Amaranth's] predecessors. But that can't be right, because that Guildmaster never took on any students."
Ilk goes off looking for Llewella. Brandt is outside her door.
Neville is studying the Primal Pattern.
Ferethyn doesn't recognize it.
Rainbow will have the Dancers research it.
Ilk goes to Realms Master Andron. He's at the first pyramid. He complains at some length about farmers with blank spots in their head, all around the same time. Melk shows up at a mntion of his name, and Ilk performs introductions.
In Chaos, someone is making a slow, formal bow to some of Ilk's gathered tendrils. Very, very real. Almost more solid than Chaos itself. A bow of supplication. Those tendrils return the converse of the bow. "I am Matatias, apprentice to Shiryu." "I have been requested from the far garden where I was tending to offer you assistance in a matter by Melchisadic."
Ilk goes to Andron and tells him that he found another interested party... Matatias appears. Looks around, says that he would be pleased to offer Andron some tools to assist in the work that he has begun here.
Ilk chats with Suhuy at some length. Matatias is known to Suhuy, and dates back at least several waves.
Note to self - have Jean, Norton, et. al. make a formal request to Shiryu for his permission for/blessing of their four-way arrangement.
Note to self - ask Melk about bibliomancy.
