You're going to need to design the casing for your thermometer. To help you get started, we're providing a base model that you can import and add on to.
The first step (in practically any software tutorial, including this one!) is to locate the correct starter files, save a copy of them that you can work on, and verify that you can open the file.
You should have received an email with the subject line "Invitation to join MIT 2.00b project on Fusion." If you have not received such an email, let us know in #ask-the-tas. If you have received it, go ahead and click "access project." This will allow you to access the main folder system we will be using to organize our files for the semester! (Last week each team was asked to set up a file system individually... but after discussion we have decided it will be much easier for troubleshooting, logistics, and file management if we all work in a central system!).
Clicking "Access Project" should present you with a page like this:
One benefit of Fusion 360 is that you can manage your files in your web browser as opposed to having to manage them all from within Fusion itself (although that is always an option!). Let's take a look at this main (or root) folder. Each team has an individual folder to work in, and your team can manage how best to organize inside of that folder as you all see fit. For now, however, we will each be making our own little folders within our teams.
From the root folder, navigate to a folder called "Thermometer Design! Start Here!". Inside of it you will find two Fusion design files - one is a base thermometer design for right-handed operation and the other is (you guessed it!) a base thermometer design for left-handed users. The only difference in these two designs is which side the push-button is mounted on.
Determine which model you would like to base your design off and right-click on it. You will see an option to "Copy" - click this and the following dialogue should appear:
Navigate to your team's folder. From there, click "New Folder," name it your name, and enter that folder - from here, you can click the blue "copy".
Now you should be able to use the data panel to navigate into the personal folder you just created and find a copy of the base thermometer design. This is your copy of the design to modify and play around with!
