Sketch Model Review

Each team will make a looks-like and a works-like sketch models for 2 concepts. For the review, please plan to show and explain the sketch models for your two concepts.

Review Structure

Each team's review will be in two parts:

• the team will present each concept for up to 2 minutes, for a total of up to 4 minutes per team presentation
• the team will playtest their concepts with another team for about 8 minutes

For most teams, the playtesting will happen directly after the team presentation, but for the last two teams presenting on Thursday, the playtesting will happen first, at the beginning of the review. For the Friday schedule, in order to accommodate constraints of different team members, playtesting will happen according to the schedule posted.

Recommended presentation format:

• Explain the toy concept
• Show the looks-like model and explain what questions you were trying to answer with it
• Demonstrate the works-like model and play, and explain what questions you were trying to answer with it

Presentation Tips:

• Please do not prepare a formal presentation or slides, etc.
• Please do have a plan for what you would like to cover and how you will show your models
• Please do ensure that each team member knows what their role will be in the presentation. Not every team member needs to be part of the presentation, though they may be.
• Please do practice your presentation a few times together with all presenters, including the transition from the first concept to the second concept.
• Please do not have a script!

Playtesting Tips:

• Let the playtesters play with your models and observe how they interact with it.
• Please do have a few questions ready to ask your playtesters about your looks-like model or forms your team is considering.
• Please do have a few questions ready to ask your playtesters about your works-like model or different implementations your team is considering.
• You may wish to ask which of your two concepts your playtesters like better. (optional)
• Please do ask playtesters for the reasons behind their answers!

This type of design review is a chance to practice extemporaneous speaking. Also, please think about what things you might like feedback on from the rest of the class. The review is an opportunity to reflect upon ideas before choosing a final toy direction.

Every team will be playtesting at least one other team's sketch models.

In addition, online feedback forms will be available. All class members are encouraged to participate in the feedback process and write suggestions for other teams throughout the review. Please bring an internet-enabled device to participate. You'll get feedback and also be able to help out other teams! It will be really interesting and fun!

Review Ettiquette

If you will be late to the review, please do not enter the review room during a presentation. Instead, wait outside until a transition period to enter. Check with the staff outside as to where the review is in the schedule and check the transition schedule for your day to see where your team will be going at the next transition period.

Team members are expected to attend the sketch model review that their team will be presenting at. Students are welcome, but not required, to attend the other sketch model review.
