To prepare for today:

1. Be sure that you have the course texts
   • Japanese: the Spoken Language, Part I, available at the Kendall Coop.
   • Kana-Kanji Version of the text (JSL), available at the Copy Tech (11-004).
2. Learn the Classroom Instructions (JSL, p. 24)WITH AUDIO
3. Learn the Greetings and Useful Phrases (JSL, pp. 24-25)WITH AUDIO
4. Be sure that you have read the Introduction (JSL, pp. 1-22) carefully, and that you are familiar with the conventions used in the text.
5. Read carefully Structural Patterns (SPs) (pp. 31-34) and Miscellaneous Notes (MN) (pp. 30-31) for Lesson 1 Section A.
6. Memorize the vocabulary items for Lesson 1 Section A (JSL, Breakdowns pp. 29-30)

Sept 14 (R)

• L.1A Drills A-E

To prepare for today:

1. Work with Audio and memorize CCs (Core Conversations) 1 through 5. Keep in mind that in class you'll be asked to ACT OUT these CCs without looking at the text.
2. With Audio, practice Drills A through E. Pay attention to the form, the pronunciation and intonation, and think of WHEN and HOW you may use these phrases.
3. Review SP (Structural Patterns) and MN (Miscellaneous Notes).

Sept 15 (F)

• L.1A Application Exercises

To prepare for today:

1. Memorize CCs 6 through 10. Work with Audio. Keep in mind that in class you'll be asked to ACT OUT these CCs without looking at the text.
2. Practice Drills F through J. Work with Audio. Pay attention to the form, the pronunciation and intonation, and think of WHEN and HOW you may use these phrases.
3. Review all the CCs and the Drills in L.1A with the tape and make sure that you've understood all the materials covered in this lesson. The materials include the key points given in Application Exercises in the text.
