The unifying feature of pornography is that it attempts to sexually arouse the viewer by explicit depiction of sexuality. As a genre, film pornography has the interesting challenge of incorporating explicit sex sequences into coherent, feature-length films.
Ideally, a pornographic motion picture is supported by a believable premise that creates opportunities for a variety of sex sequences throughout the film. In between sex sequences are intervals of character development, plot development, and introduction and resolution of conflict, which support the premise and serve as transitions between the explicit scenes.
This study presents a classification of the narrative elements of film pornography and a coding system for films.
