Seeking its first conference win on the road,
the Engineers jumped to an early 4-0 lead on easy backdoor
layups by freshman Adam Gibbons
and sophomore Andrew Tsai. Sophomore
Kyle Doherty dominated the inside
with numerous layups and easy putbacks as the Engineers added
to their lead. However, the Engineers were able to build a
eight point lead thanks to the hot shooting of freshman Eli
Sheets who came off the bench and quickly nailed two 3-pointers.
MIT led 31-23 going into halftime.
Coast Guard managed cut the lead to just
two points on consecutive 3 pointers early in the second half.
However, the Engineers responded as freshman Danny
Kanamori's dribble penetration led to easy baskets inside
by Doherty, and junior forward Boris
Paskalev. Freshman Mike Huhs also
went 5 for 5 from the field as the Engineers regained their
comfortable lead. But the story of the second half was again
Sheets, who hit 3 more three-pointers,
including a fadeaway from the corner just before the shot
clock expired. The Engineers had the lead up to twenty and
never let it slip below ten the rest of the way as MIT cruised
to victory.
