Freshman Danny Kanamori
got the Engineers started with a three-pointer from the top
of the key on its first possession, but Clark stormed back
with hot shooting of its own to take an early 8 point lead.
The Engineers responded though, with great defense and rebounding
that led easy baskets at the other end. Sophomore Kyle
Doherty and freshman Mike Huhs
were instrumental during this stretch as the Engineers took
a 21-20 lead. The game went back and forth for the remainder
of the first half as the Engineers got huge contributions
from juniors Neal Brenner and Boris
Paskalev off the bench. However, Clark went on a little
spurt right before halftime converting a 3-pointer plus a
foul and took a 49-42 lead heading into halftime.
After both teams went scoreless in its first
few possessions, freshman Adam Gibbons
hit a three-pointer to bring the Engineers within 4, 49-45.
Doherty dominated the second half
for the Engineers scoring 10 straight points during one stretch,
but the Engineers could get no closer than 2 points as Clark
continued to score on the other end. With Clark leading 64-62
with a little over 4 minutes remaining, MIT missed a front
end of a one and one. On its ensuing possession, Clark hit
a three-pointer and after several consecutive MIT turnovers
built their lead to 10 with 2 minutes remaining. Kanamori
and Gibbons hit three's to try to
get the Engineers back into the game, but Clark led by no
fewer than five points the rest of the way and made enough
free throws down the stretch.
