The Engineers impressive performance was
keyed by a suffocating defensive effort that rendered Clark
27 points below its season average. The first half was highlighted
by continued hot shooting by Andrew Tsai
who hit 3 three point field goals en route to scoring 11 points
before the break. Both teams struggled offesively early on,
however, and neither team could pull away from the other.
MIT went into halftime trailing by just a point 25-26. The
Engineers came out flat to begin the second half and Clark's
lead quickly grew to 9 points. MIT would slowly crawl back
into game, but had to overcome foul trouble to do so. The
comeback was aided by strong bench play from Mike
D'Auria who scored 7 points and Gary
Atkins who had 5 points and 5 offensive rebounds. Adam
Gibbons scored all of his 17 points in the second half,
leading the Engineers to take the lead for good. MIT made
just enough free throws in the last few minutes to secure
the game. The win puts MIT in a three way tie for first place
in the NEWMAC.
