Getting to MIT

Wong Auditorium, Tang Center

Arrival by air
Taxi fare from Logan International Airport to the campus is approximately $20, regardless of the number of passengers. During rush hour, you should allow yourself at least an hour travel time. Public transportation from the airport to MIT is available. Although an inexpensive alternative, it is quite cumbersome with luggage and not recommended.

The Boston Coach car service can provide a chauffeured limousine or a New Yorker sedan for travel between the airport and the hotel. To contact them, call 800-672-7676. Provide the airline name, flight number and arrival time for best service

Arrival by train
You will arrive in Boston at South Station. Taxi service and public transportation are available.

Arrival by cab
The address of the Tang Center is 2 Amherst Street. The entrance to the Tang Center is located at the corner of Amherst Street and Wadsworth Street.

Arrival by car
MIT is located in Cambridge on Memorial Drive, a major roadway in the region's highway system. From the west and northwest, there is access to Memorial Drive from the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90) and Route 2. From the north (Interstate 93/Southeast Expressway), the suggested approach is to connect with Storrow Drive in Boston via the central artery bridgeways, heading west on Storrow Drive. Take the Massachusetts Avenue exit onto the Harvard Bridge which crosses the Charles River and leads you straight to MIT's central entrance at 77 Massachusetts Avenue (Building 7).

Public Transportation
There are a number of trains and buses which provide public transportation to the Cambridge/Boston area. The No. 1 bus stops at MIT’s main entrance (77 Massachusetts Avenue), and provides service to Harvard Square and downtown Boston. The CT1 bus departs from Central Square and also stops at MIT’s main entrance. The CT2 bus departs from Kendall Square and stops at the corner of Vassar and Massachusetts Avenue. Bus fare is $.90 each way, and exact change is required. The MBTA Red Line provides train service to the MIT area via stops at Central Square (on Massachusetts Avenue) and Kendall/MIT (on Main Street). The Kendall/MIT stop is the closest to the Tang Center. Subway fare is $1.25 each way, and tokens may be purchased at most subway stations. All public transportation systems run between the hours of 6:00 am and 12:30 am. You may find out more information, including information on purchasing a visitor pass, at the MBTA web site: http://www.mbta.com.

Parking
There is no conference parking available on the MIT campus. Public parking is available in the garage located next to the Cambridge Marriott Hotel at 4 Cambridge Center, on the corner of Ames Street and Broadway. Rates are approximately $20.00 per day.

Taxis
You may call Ambassador Brattle Cab, a 24-hour taxi service, by dialing 3-2301 from any campus telephone. The Marriott Hotel in Kendall square also has a cab stand.

Kendall Square contains many restaurants and coffee shops, the MIT Coop, MIT Press book store, a pharmacy, and a US Post office.
