During the explaination of the game, Reg yells which wakes up Norman. Norman begins a drunken recitation of the dream he had. Then he asks to call his wife, Ruth. The others don't think it's a good idea, but he calls anyway. Reg continues with the explaination of his game, while Norman confesses about his aborted tryst with Anne that weekend in the background. It turns out that Mother is on the phone as well as Ruth, and Norman starts insulting her. He then threatens to beat her, and starts out into the hall to make good on his words. Anne and Sara follow to restrain him.

Tom picks up the phone to hang it up, and gets sucked into a conversation with Ruth, who is still on the line. Anne enters and yells at Tom and Reg to help her restrain Norman. Tom yells at Anne that she takes him for granted. Anne is very upset. Tom feels somewhat boorish and leaves through the garden.
