Welcome to the official MIT Men's Basketball Home Page. Thank you for your interest in our program. As you know, MIT is one of the best science and engineering schools in the nation. The Institute is also a leading university in other areas such as economics and management. Complementing our rigorous academics is one of the finest Athletic Departments in the country. Basketball is one of 39 intercollegiate programs (24 for men, 15 for women) at MIT.
Admission to MIT is highly competitive. As an NCAA Division III program, MIT does not offer athletic scholarships. Financial aid is granted solely on the basis of need as determined by the Student Financial Aid Office. The criteria for admissions is related specifically to academic potential, personal qualifications, and outstanding activities/achievements. Nevertheless, the MIT community does appreciate the significant impact and contribution of quality athletes on students campus life and culture. Our rich legacy and proud tradition have produced a wealth of well-balanced and successful student-athletes. Over 90% of the students who enter MIT as freshmen complete their undergraduate studies and receive degrees.
The Athletic Department will continue to cultivate and challenge the highest standards in athletic endeavors. The 15th president of MIT, Charles M. Vest, suggests that great institutions of higher education "learn from the past; interact with the present; and aspire to influence the future".
MIT Men's Basketball Team is directed by Head Coach Larry Anderson. He is in his second year at MIT after a tenure at Rust College. Anderson is receiving help from an excellent group of Assistant Coaches: Wallace Johnson, Josh Bubar, Eric Vichnick, Steve Graham and P.J. Sallaway. If you are interested in knowing more about MIT Men's Basketball, please feel free to contact Larry Anderson, or any of his assistants. They can be reach by phone at (617)253-5006 or by email at landerso@mit.edu.
Since coming to MIT, Anderson has brought with him a team philosophy that sets the tone for this program:
