             Edward Flemming   is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Linguistics at MIT. His primary research interests concern the ways in which phonological systems are shaped by the nature of speech production and perception. He has an MA in Linguistics with Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh, 1990, and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from UCLA, 1995. Recent papers include 'The relationship between coronal place and vowel backness' (Phonology , 2004) and 'Speech perception and phonological contrast' (to appear in D. Pisoni and R.E. Remez, eds, The Handbook of Speech Perception).
